Board of Education
A local board of education is an agency of New
York State governed by NYS law and the Regulations of the
Commissioner of Education. The Port Jervis City School District
Board of Education has the power to develop policies, rules and
regulations for the operation of our school system.
There are nine residents who serve, without pay, on our school
board. On the third Tuesday in May, three members are elected on
a rotating basis to a three-year term of office.

Board of Education Election Results
In
the May 21 Board of Education election, Robert Witherow,
William Onofry and Tammy Myers were elected to serve
three-year terms.
Witherow,
who was appointed in March to fill an opening on the
Board, regained his seat. The term for this seat, which
went to the candidate with the highest number of votes,
begins May 23. The other newly-elected board members
will be sworn in at the Board’s annual organizational
meeting, held the first week of July.
Three of the nine seats on
the School Board were up for election. Listed below are
the final vote tabulation:
